About Michael Carwile

Hi, my name is Michael Carwile, and experience has taught me that if you're thinking about hiring me as your marketing consultant, you'd like to know a bit about my background and experience.

I'll try not to bore you with details, but here's a bit about me and my background:

How I Got Started as a Marketing Consultant

A little over 10 years ago, I started working for a direct sales and marketing company. I was 19. Before that, I had only worked manual labor positions, with exception to my summer lawn care business.

The company was Vector Marketing, a company that utilizes entry-level, college-aged salespeople to sell kitchen cutlery and accessories to people in their homes. Not quite vacuum cleaners door-to-door, but daunting nonetheless. I discovered in my first selling weekend that I had found my passion - sales and marketing - and I discovered that I had a natural ability, too. I was the number one salesperson for the entire company, nationwide, for that weekend of selling.

Looking back, I'm not sure I was really aware of the magnitude of that. But it certainly impacted me enough that I realized what I wanted to do with my career - marketing and sales.

Learning How Marketing Works the Hard Way

Sparing you some of the personal bits of my background, suffice it to say that I came to Lubbock, Texas to go to Texas Tech University. While attending, I believed I needed to take whatever jobs I could to make a few bucks to drink beer on the weekends with friends, and otherwise do what college kids do. About halfway through, though, I realized there was a better way.

I started my first legitimate business - a print brokerage, and landed my first client within 2 days - a top-player in the home maintenance industry.

Print Brokerage to Full-Service Advertising Agency in 8 Months

Within the first 8 months of running the print brokerage, I acquired a partner, and we scaled the business up to a full-service advertising agency with 16 employees. We took on bigger clients, bigger budgets, and we took many businesses into the digital era, building their first company websites.

We grew too fast. I was inexperienced, and learned a hard lesson.

Within 18 months, my partner decided to move on to bigger and better things, revenues weren't where they needed to be, and things were looking bleak. I was offered a full-time position with a web development firm, and thinking I could be an employee, I took the job. I quickly realized that I was never going to be able to help companies the way I wanted to while working there, so I struck out again with a new partner to build a web development company.

Web Development Focused, Marketing Mindset

I helped manage the growth of our web development company to a little over 100 customers in less than a year. We helped probably half of those customers put their first business website online. Social media was quickly becoming a fundamental consideration to business marketing, and being a web development company, we were in prime position to capitalize on the opportunity. My partner and I secured outside funding to expand the business and take our model and help more businesses get online with great success.

Maximizing My Ability To Help Small Business

Through my time with these different explorations, I learned where my true nook is in the business space - that of an independent marketing consultant that helps businesses with all aspects of their marketing, while saving them money in the process. In 2010, I left the web development company to start Carwile Marketing with my first two clients being a home health agency and a land development company.

Since I started Carwile Marketing, I've helped a couple dozen companies with their marketing, and I have worked with several on an ongoing basis for months or even years.

The relationship between me and my clients is mutually beneficial.

I love marketing, especially when its for companies that have products or services that really add value to the world. Nothing makes me nerd-out more than looking at the performance of a marketing campaign and finding ways to tweak it and improve conversions by 20, 30, 50, or even 100%. And I get to do this while saving my clients time and money. The numbers really speak for themselves:

1 An employee is defined as a full-time, benefits-eligible employee. The figures used in this table were calculated through multiple sources, primarily the median averages as portrayed on salary.com.

2 The figure reported here is an example. For some clients, the rate can be much higher, and for others, much lower - it all depends on you and your business marketing needs. A marketing consultant working as an independent contractor provides you with the same skillset you would expect from a full-time employee, but with the added advantage of no overhead, and working with someone as a peer, versus the employer/employee relationship.

What I Can Do For Your Business

This is my normal arrangement. I fill the position of a Marketing Director for your business, handling every aspect of your marketing, from planning, to implementation, to tracking an analysis.
